Monster anthology
Monster seasons in order
Monster is an anthology: every season tells a different true-crime story with a new cast. Below is the full season list in release order — plus the one thing most first-time viewers want to know before episode one.
Updated
You can start at Season 4.
Each Monster season is self-contained — new case, new cast, no continuing plot. If the Lizzie Borden season is why you're here, start there now — it is streaming. Watching the earlier seasons is optional, not homework.

How the seasons connect (and don't)
- Every season stands alone. New case, new cast, no continuing plot — skipping one doesn't spoil the others.
- The throughline is creative, not story: Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's anthology returns with a fresh real case each time.
- One familiar face crosses seasons: Charlie Hunnam plays Ed Gein in Season 3 and Andrew Borden in Season 4 — two different people, two different roles.
- Season 4 adds Sarah Paulson as Aileen Wuornos in a separate, later-era storyline. She is not part of the 1892 Fall River household.
