The retrial, without cameras and with the abuse defense pared to the bone, ends the way the tabloids wanted: guilty of first-degree murder, life without parole, and separate prisons that end the brothers' daily contact for decades.

The season closes in flashback — a family sailing trip, José pushing Kitty back toward her career, the brothers below deck discussing the plan — freezing the story at the last moment before anyone was a killer or a victim, and leaving the argument to the viewer.
