Mother!

Plainfield, 1944. Ed Gein lives with his mother Augusta on an isolated farm under a religion that reads every woman outside it as sin. He has one exception — a girlfriend in town, Adeline Watkins — and one brother, Henry, who wants out.

Henry's exit attempt ends under a falling log that the season frames ambiguously; Augusta's strokes follow her son's death and a final confrontation with her own catechism, and Ed is left alone with the voice that tells him to bring her back. His first grave robbery is the answer: he digs up a woman and installs her in his mother's chair.
