Institutionalized, Ed is sentenced to a strange afterlife: the estate auctioned as a ghoulish attraction, the house burned by arson before the sale, and $300 in proceeds spent on three ham radios and women's lingerie.

Over radios that were never connected, he conducts his own therapy: Ilse Koch denies everything, Christine Jorgensen names the misogyny underneath the woman suit, and Nurse Roz bans the crossdressing outright. When the hallucinations turn violent and she survives them anyway, the diagnosis lands — schizophrenia — and the medication begins.
