The episode

The title is a grim joke and a time cut. In 1892, Lizzie and Maggie scramble to scrub a scene that will not stay hidden; a first statement does not hold, and the inquiry tightens around the household instead of a passing stranger. The real investigation did turn toward Lizzie within days — she was arrested on August 11 — and the show uses that turn without pretending the police file is a screenplay.

In the later timeline, the Borden house has become a bed-and-breakfast, the tourist version of the legend. Wuornos's thread continues there: a true-crime pilgrim walking through a case that has already been packaged for sale. That packaging is real. The conversation the series gives her inside those rooms is not.
