The episode
The season reaches back to 1978. High school ends, the household dissolves — his mother leaves with his younger brother, his father moves in with a new partner — and Jeffrey stays behind in the family house in Bath, Ohio, drinking and lifting weights in an empty home.
He invites a hitchhiker, Steven Hicks, back for beers; when Hicks leaves, Dahmer kills him — his first murder, at eighteen — and nearly gets caught the same night when police stop his swerving car and wave it on. It is the episode where the pattern is born: panic, concealment, and a near-miss nobody investigates.
